Wild Horses of Dorado Beach: A Bedtime Blessing

eBook by: Danielle C. Santana

Introduction

One sun filled morning on Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico, sparked this story and several others.

As the sun rose over the island, the sea shimmered with light and the sounds of the waves lingered in the salty air. That is when I saw them – a band of wild horses moving freely along the resort property.  Some grazed, some wandered, and others stood watch while their foals stayed close. They were strong and untamed, yet completely at ease, as if they belonged exactly where they were meant to be.

I stayed there watching for a while from the seventh-floor balcony, then decided to get closer.  You can see this video in my “Puerto Rico” story highlight on my Instagram @storybooktree

As the day unfolded into evening and the island shifted from sunlight to starlight, I could not stop thinking about how creation itself seems to trust in God’s care.  The waves never forget the shore.  The stars return each night.  And the wild horses rest without fear.

Scripture tells us, “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, Lord make me dwell in safety” (Psalm 4:8).  That truth echoed in my heart as I later watched my own children settle in for the night – peaceful, guarded, secure – I was reminded again of the wild horses of Dorado Beach, a living picture of God’s promise to watch over His children.

That morning inspired this story, and eventually a series of other stories, written to help little ones slow down, release their worries, and rest in the truth that God cares for them – just as He cares for the sea, the stars and the wild horses who roam the island shore.

My prayer is that this book becomes a gentle endling to your day – a quiet reminder that God’s care does not fade with the sunset, and that every child can rest peacefully, knowing they are deeply loved and safely held.

The real wild horses of Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico.

Wild Horses of Dorado Beach: A Bedtime Blessing

Little one, as you rest tonight,

With stars above your view,

I whisper prayers of peace and love,

For God is caring for you.

As moonlight spills on Dorado Beach,

And waves sing soft and low,

The island settles into rest

Where palm trees sway so slow.

Along the shore, where sand meets sea,

The wild horses gather near,

Their hooves now still, their breathing calm,

No reason left to fear.

Strong and free all through the day,

They ran beneath the sun,

But now they rest, for nighttime comes,

And God’s care is never done.

A gentle mare bends down her head,

Her foal close by her side,

Wrapped in warmth and quiet peace,

With nothing left to hide.

Just like those horses on the shore,

So precious in God’s sight,

My prayer is that you feel His love

Surround you through this night.

When worries feel too big for you,

Or thoughts won’t slow their pace,

May you give them all to God

And rest in His embrace.

For God cares for you, my child—

In every place you roam,

At school, at play, by sea or shore,

And here, tucked safe at home.

May angels guard your dreams tonight,

May peace fill up your heart,

May you always know how deeply loved

You are—right from the start.

The horses close their sleepy eyes,

The stars shine bright above,

Creation hums a lullaby

Of faithfulness and love.

I bless your mind with gentle thoughts,

Your body with sweet rest,

Your spirit with God’s steady truth—

That you are always blessed.

And just as God watches the sea,

The shore, the foal, the mare,

He watches over you, my dear,

With kind and constant care.

So sleep now, little one, sleep deep,

Let morning come anew,

Remember this, both night and day:

God truly cares for you.

Goodnight from Dorado Beach,

Where wild horses rest and roam—

A reminder that wherever you are,

You’re never far from home.

Dedication

This book is dedicated to: My three stars, precious gifts from God.

May you always know how deeply you are loved, how carefully you are watched over, and how gently God holds your heart – day and night, near and far.

Just like the Wild Horses of Dorado Beach, may you grow strong and free, rest peacefully in God’s care, and trust that you are never alone.

With all my love.

In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.”              – Psalm 4:8

About the Author

The author is a mother, storyteller, and woman of faith who grew up in Miami, spending her days on her family’s boat, exploring Biscayne Bay and the quiet beauty of Everglades National Park. Surrounded by open skies, shimmering water, and starlit nights, she learned to notice God’s presence in the still, sacred rhythms of creation.

Her faith is rooted in family heritage, including her great-grand uncle, Blessed Solanus Casey, whose life of humility, prayer, and trust in God continues to inspire her. As a teenager, she discovered a deep love for horses—riding freely under the sun and learning to see strength, gentleness, and God’s care reflected in every creature.

A peaceful morning watching wild horses along Dorado Beach in Puerto Rico inspired her to write a series of stories, crafted to help children slow down, feel safe, and rest in the quiet assurance that God watches over them wherever they roam. Today, you’ll often find her dreaming under the open skies of her Texas ranch, stargazing through her telescope, and finding new inspiration for stories filled with faith, wonder, and the gentle beauty of God’s creation.
